In Loving Memory

June Maginley in 2013June Maginley died on June 10, 2014.

June spent her last month in hospital. She received her cancer diagnosis only 10 days before she died, and she accepted her impending death with a grace that was a wonderful gift to those who loved her.  Her family gathered round her for a celebration of her life while she was still with us to enjoy it.

We tell the story of her dying here as a transcription of how it unfolded on Facebook, as it affected and inspired so many of our Facebook friends. Her husband Charles (“Doug”) has added his reflections.

The Memorial page has photos, texts, descriptions and videos from the memorial service which was held in Mahone Bay on August 16, 2014, and related events.

June dreamed of writing her memoirs, and felt a little cheated by her illness taking that dream from her, so we have been collecting her writings and other creative pursuits in this website. See various items in the menu.

Please feel free to leave memories, anecdotes etc. below, or on any relevant page, in the comments sections.

  8. Dear Charles;

    Gabe and I think of you at this time of your loss and send to you our belated condolences with prayers that you are comforted knowing that so many care. Our memories of June are so linked with appreciation of beauty, especially with regard to home-making and to gardening. This summer after much searching, I fnally found the rose bush that June was so pleased with -“Blanc Double de Coubert”. It was planted in June and hence will be known as “June’s rose” in her memory.

  9. Thank you, Heather, for contacting your dear mother’s friends! June & I were on staff at The Charlottetown Guardian daily newspaper, then later remained in touch by mail & visits when I lived in Halifax. We shared a love of the natural world around us, and enjoyed the wonder of discovering that life! We became busy with our family life, yet in later years right up to these final octogenarian years, we found many common interests and our friendship remained . What a wonderful family, indeed, is her heritage! “Verily, we are God’s, and to Him shall we return.” (Baha’i Writings)
