June Maginley

Age 80, of Mahone Bay, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, of cancer. June was born in Prince Edward Island, the daughter of Brent and Rita (Mobbs) Eikhoud. She worked at newspapers in Charlottetown and St. John NB before marrying her first husband, the late Rev. Flemming Holm, in 1957. They lived in various communities in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and had four children.

June obtained a degree in social work from Dalhousie University in 1982 and married her second husband, Charles Douglas Maginley, in Sydney in the same year. They moved to Mahone Bay in 1990 where they operated The Garden Gate B&B for several years.

June was an artist at heart who expressed her fine sense of colour and beauty in interior decorating, gardening, flower arranging, photography, stained glass, rug hooking, and her own personal style. Abiding interests in psychology and spirituality led her to explore paths which were off the beaten track for her time and place, and which developed the grace and wisdom that touched the lives of those close to her.

She is survived by her husband Charles Douglas, Mahone Bay; daughter Heather Holm (Steve Sepulchre) and grandson Malcolm Sepulchre, Martins Point; daughter Pamela Holm, Ottawa; son Michael Holm (Dorcas Beaton), Toronto; daughter Carol Holm (Blake Rink), Calgary; sister Shirley Harbottle, Ancaster, ON; two nephews and two nieces. She was predeceased by her brother Cecil and sister Helen Rose. In her last days she was surrounded by her loving family. Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff on the 4th floor of SSRH.

  1. Dear Heather
Was looking on your blog page for a few days and only heard that many information about your Mom were published on Face Book . Not familiar with Face book / hardly use it . Just read now and very moving
    Thinking of you .
    Love . Larry

    • Merci Larry. ( Peut-être que j’ai trop de blogs? ) Contente que tu as trouvé les postes sur FB. Je t’embrace.

  2. To all in the Holmes and Maginley family,
Sorry very sorry to hear of June’s passing. I learned of this just recently through my Aunt Shirley (Harbottle); I had no idea she was gravely ill.

I have fond memories of being at her house down east house as a child; and how thoughtful and kind she was. She always wanted the best for everyone. Even me.

    RIP June.
Take care of Uncle Cecil and my mom Helen Rose up there.

    Sincerest condolences,
    Scott

    • Hi Scott,
So nice to hear from you. I certainly remember your visit to Sydney. I’m sure Mom was delighted to get to know you. Hope we can be in touch.
